Expedition 9.2

Acatenango/ Fuego Volcano Adventure

    • From the bottom of Mt. Acatenango we will ascend in a 4×4 vehicle to the base camp at 12,044 ft. It will be about a 45 minute drive up.
    • When we reach our base camp we will have a beautiful view of the lava explosions from Fuego Volcano.
    • There we will have a ½ hour break with a light supper before we begin our trek to Volcano Fuego.
    • We begin by heading down the steep slopes descending to the valley between Acatenengo and Volcan Fuego, along the knife-ridge trail while relishing the views and firework display of Fuego. It will be about 1.5 hours of hiking. Parts of the hike will be strenuous especially, the last 30 minutes before the summit.
    • When we reach a safe distance, about 300 ft. from the summit and the volcano crater of Fuego, you will feel the rumbling of the eruptions as you get closer.
    • As the volcano erupts every 20 minutes, we will try to catch at least 3 eruptions while we are up there.
    • IT WILL BE COLD (35), and windy up there. For this reason we recommend using a 3-layer system and always bring warm clothes.
    • Therefore, although we supply all warm clothing including parkas, hats and gloves, should you want to use your own gear/ clothing, please feel free to do so.
    • We will then begin our trek back to the base camp, where our 4 x4 vehicles will be waiting for us to make the drive down Mt. Acatenango.
    • Above all this beautiful and challenging adventure will be something that you will certainly remember for the rest of your life!

Paragliding over Lake Atitlan

    • Lake Atitlán in Guatemala is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and offers a unique paragliding experience. Surrounded by lush hills and three majestic volcanoes — Atitlán, Tolimán, and San Pedro — the lake presents an awe-inspiring backdrop for paragliders. The clear, deep blue waters of the lake contrast sharply with the vibrant greens of the surrounding landscapes, creating a vivid and picturesque scene.
    • Paragliding over Lake Atitlán, pilots often launch from the hills above the lake, taking advantage of the favorable thermal and wind conditions. The experience provides an unmatched bird’s-eye view of the lake and its surroundings, including the traditional Mayan villages dotted along its shores. The flight typically offers a peaceful and serene experience, allowing gliders to soak in the natural beauty of the area while gently floating above it.
